How to Inspect the Quality of Used Storage Containers - Storage Container

Storage containers are very versatile, meaning they can be used in a variety of ways.  You may want to buy a portable storage container so that you can safely store your belongings, or you may want to run your business out of it or even live out of it!  Whatever the reason, you should make certain that you choose the portable storage container with the right size and quality.  Although storage containers are well worth the price, if you’re trying to save money, you should consider buying a used storage container.

Many people believe that used portable storage containers won’t be as reliable as a new one, which usually isn’t the case.  That being said, it’s important that you know how to check if the used portable storage container is in good shape before purchasing it.  Before purchasing a used storage container, here are some of the things you should examine.

Photos

The portable storage container that you see online may not be the exact one that you’ll be receiving.  From small, local dealers, they may take pictures of the best parts of different storage containers and put them together to appear as if the pictures are from a single unit, when they’re really not.  When you’re buying from a company with a large inventory, on the other hand, they may not have the exact picture of your storage container; instead, they’ll show you a picture of what you can expect.  When you see the container for the first time, you can see if it fits the description that you were anticipating.

Exterior

You should walk around the portable storage container and examine its overall condition.  If there are a couple of dents, that shouldn’t be a big deal, but if there’s a lot of corrosion, it could mean the storage container is in bad shape.  You should also check corner castings, paint, and seals around the edges.

Interior

The first thing you should do is check for damage in the door.  Make sure to check door fittings, gaskets, seals, and locking mechanisms.  When you’re inside the portable storage container, you should also smell for any indication of mold.  Lastly, you’ll want to check if the container is watertight.  You can do so by entering the container during the day and closing the door.  If any light can be seen from inside the storage container, it isn’t watertight.
